This is something I experienced firsthand (and “experienced” really does feel like the right word), when an ex-boyfriend I hadn’t heard from in quite a while suddenly sent me a music link saying, “I heard this song and thought of us.” It was a song we used to listen to a lot on drives together. My heart dropped in that moment — I know I’m not the only one who felt that way, right?
When a man genuinely misses a woman, it’s sensory memories that react first. A restaurant they went to together, a movie they watched, a shared playlist. These things keep popping up in his everyday life. That’s why he says things like “I saw this and thought of you” or “We used to do this kind of thing together.” This isn’t just casual small talk — it means the time he spent with you still holds meaning for him.
- What to do: When he brings up shared memories, it’s fine to dive into that nostalgic feeling together, but don’t get stuck in the past. Don’t stop at “That time was really great” — it’s much more attractive to move the conversation into the present with something like, “Right? So what have you been up to lately?”
